We fell passionately, entirely in love with Hawaii when we spent our whirlwind honeymoon there back in 2013. On our departure day, due to sheer carelessness from being stuck in honeymoon mode, we missed our flight back to the mainland. And this ultimately turned into a twist of fate. Utter panic ensued as we scrambled into a taxicab and booked it for HNL. En route, after a serious conversation about Aloha shirts and kimchi, our driver pointed out a market on the pier. “Did you guys have some good poke while you were here? No?! No way! Oh man. Dis place has DA BEST poke!” We were graciously booked on the next flight home, but we had four hours to kill. Of course, it was imperative that we grab the next cab and head over to the pier. Gotta try da best poke.

It was at this fish market that we ordered our very first bowl of fresh ahi poke. This enlightening experience propelled a chain reaction of decisions and events that would lead us to Humuhumu today. One bite and we were immersed in an ethereal universe; it remains inde-scribable to this day. The freshness and flavor were beyond comprehensible to our novice taste buds – pure magic and Aloha at first bite. Yet we were overwhelmed at the thought of leaving this newfound love behind in paradise. We knew that this was what we needed. It was what Graz needed. It was what EVERYBODY needed. After endless trial and error, we did it. We recreated our euphoric moment in the form of the perfect bowl of fresh, savory fish and rice.

Our Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl was introduced in 2016 to the premier menu of our newest location, Kirby’s American Kitchen. Since then, we’ve done quite a bit of experimenting. From creating luscious sauces, to seeking out the freshest produce that complements rather than com-petes with our delicate fish, we’ve kicked it up a notch. Finally, we’ve achieved that extra something with the addition of crunchy toppings.
